You may have seen Glade Dance Collective at all three Joy of Motion Dance Center locations and have not even realized it. JOMDC faculty members Sylvana Christopher and Lauren Borchard, JOMDC work study Betsy Loikow and Jack Guidone Theater audio tech Tynika Booth are all Glade members. Glade rehearses at JOMDC regularly and the connection between JOMDC and Glade will come full circle with Glade’s first evening-length performance this weekend February 18th and 19th at The Jack Guidone Theater.
As a collective, Glade is no ordinary dance company. The dancers are not bodies that merely move around space. Each of Glade’s modern-based dances, even when led by one principle choreographer, takes a collective approach to choreography, music, motivation, stage setting and/or costumes.
Glade will be premiering two new group pieces at this performance, as well as bringing back collectively-choreographed favorites Health/Care and District. Defined? – each telling specific stories unique to DC. You may have also seen Glade at JOMDC’s choreography showcase Dance Project back in December, opening the show with Alina Hall’s Khora (pictured below). This weekend, expect to see a longer, stronger version of this powerful, musical piece.
Join us in welcoming Glade Dance Collective and their Virginia-based guests Terra Dance Project at The Jack Guidone Theater at JOMDC Friendship Heights. Performance times are Saturday, February 18th at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 19th at 7:00 p.m. Tickets start at $12. Click here to purchase yours today!
